In the Summertime.....

....when the weather is hot, you can stretch right up and touch the sky.

Summer is the perfect time for grandkids.

Matthew enjoying a snack.

Giggling at Grammy.

Lauren showing Goldie some love.

More love from Lauren. Goldie seems to be done with it.

Nathan sporting a summer Mohawk. We were taking a short hike at the Big Darby Headwaters.

Gaige striking a tough pose.

This is Kaitlyn's only happy moment on the 30-minute hike. She screamed and shivered at every bug, leaf and sound. It didn't help matters any that her brothers kept talking about seeing coyotes. To give her credit, Nathan was a little freaked out by that kind of talk, too.

And a few flowers that we I saw along the way.

And a spider web glistening with the dew.

Mungo Jerry was a little freaky himself.

That was a lovely little trip ... until the spider web and Mungo Jerry.

I better not still have that song in my head when I wake up..... (and I didn't even click on the video!)

Thanks for the little trip; it was great! I love the Mungo Jerry song but I'd never seen the video before. The lead singer wasn't very convincing about being happy, was he! He could have smiled a little more.

First, I thought you had put up an old photo of Jaye! That first one could be him instead of Matthew. Was the walk in The Nature Conservancy preserve? And finally ... spiders are beautiful and greatly maligned (much like snakes!) -from your nature girl SIL

I loved the musical accompaniment. Could he be any furrier?
What fun to tramp through the woods with the grandkids. I imagine we will all be a little more patient with the grandkids than we were with the kids! (Or at least that is my hope for myself :)

Those babies are getting big! I liked the music as well...but seriously, wasn't everyone in the '70's a little freaking and furry? Even my dad had some of that going on!

I have had this song in my head for days. Don't know where it came from. It just keeps rolling through. Well better now than in January! It least that part makes sense. Desperately trying to drown it out with "Don't Fence Me In" a tune for all times of the year.

Great photos!

(I . . . will . . . not . . . let . . . that . . . song . . . into . . . my . . . head.)

That first portrait of Lauren with gorgeous henny needs to be printed big and framed.

So many thoughts.

I wish I'd had a grandma like you in my life.

I can't wait to be a grandma and take them on nature hikes and making them learn the wildflower names (after I learn them first).

Wonderful summer time with your grands.

Sanna, I was using Mungo Jerry to enhance the cuteness of my babes! Worked, didn't it?

You don't like spiders? Hmmmmm, that gives me ideas....

Susan said...

Sandy, I'm guessing he was probably stoned and not the happy kind. lol

Susan said...

Yes, SIL, it was at The Nature Conservancy. Spiders don't freak me out, and most of the time snakes don't unless they are evil nasty ones that can kill you. I have a garter snake living in my pole beans. That was a little surprise when I was picking beans the other evening!

Susan said...

Natashya, most of the time I'm more patient with the grands...it all depends on how much I've had them with me! Sometimes Grammy gets a wee bit impatient because she's old and cranky like that! lol

Susan said...

Sandy, it's unbelievable how fast they grow! The baby is walking and you know how that goes...once they start walking, they don't seem like babies anymore. Kinda sad.

My brother and two of his boys had mutton chops, but not quite as big as Jerry's.

I don't know, Tattered, I'm thinking January would be the perfect time to sing 'In the Summertime'. Might get you through those cold, dreary days.

Give me land, lots of land under starry skies above
Don't fence me in

Ruthie,

Thought #1--I already thought of that. Her mom loved the pic.

#2--I wish I'd had a Grandma like me, too. (Thank you)

#3--I've got to remember to take my wildflower book with me next time!

#4--You will make a fantastic Grandma--the best!

beautiful shots - goldie and the chicken is just gorgeous! I also love the flower shots.

glad you are having a great time visiting them

Dig those mutton chops, man (NOT!). Truly dig the photos of your grandchildren. You ARE wonderful! And I shall be happ-ap-py for the rest of the day, curse you ;)
Keep enjoying those grandkids!

Susan said...

LOL, Char, Goldie IS the chicken! Lauren is the girl! :) Thank you, thank you!

Susan said...

ds, yeah, those are to die for, aren't they?!!

I've been ha-ap-py ALL the livelong day, thanks to me! And, well, you know, Jerry...

Thank you!

What fun to be a grandma! Look at those kids and just see how happy they are! They are so lucky to have you and all of the great experiences that you provide them!

Summertime ... and the livin' is easy! / Life's for livin' ... yeah that our phil- os-ophy!!!

Thank goodness for it!

Wonderful pics, Susan!

CG, just wait until yours are older and you can do so many fun things with them! We're going to be buying a travel trailer soon and then the summer fun will really begin! We took our kids camping when they were young and we can't wait to give our grandchildren that experience. Kaitlyn may have to wait a couple of years though. She has to get over the bug thing a little bit first! LOL I don't think Lauren will have any problems with bugs and Matthew will probably just eat them!

Thank you for your nice words.

Susan said...

P.S.

I know some people (my SIL) thinks camping in anything but a tent is NOT camping, but let me tell you, my bones are too old not to have a bed....and I have to pee too many times a night not to have a bathroom! LOL

Beautiful adorable children-and neat flowers pics too!

Grandkids ARE the BEST! But you are a wicked awesome grammy too! Love the photo hugging the hen. Didn't know they liked to be loved up so. I can honestly say that I've never hugged a chicken. I think I'll put that on my bucket list.
You captured all that I love about summer. Wildflowers, chickens being loved up, grandkids, taking hikes in the coolness of a forest. ahhhhhhh

Although I must admit, I'm jonesing for autumn and all it provides. I love that we have 4 seasons to choose from, and to enjoy all the things that they bring.

Susan said...

Thank you, Tipper!

Susan said...

Jackee, I love that "wicked awesome" compliment! I'm going to tell that one to the grandkids and hope they agree!

I pet and hug my chickens all the time. They follow me around like I'm Snow White. A couple of my Rhode Island Reds lay their heads on my shoulder when I'm holding them. And some would rather not have that close an experience with Snow. LOL

I love autumn, but, unfortunately, it brings us that much closer to winter. Chickens are not fun in winter.

Don said...

I must be a mean chicken farmer cuz I don't really have a chicken who would sit there like Goldie. Mine are all independent and *&^itchy!!

Lovely photos!!

Susan said...

Yeah, Don, I can just see you being mean to your chickens! Out there cracking the whip, ordering them to lay more eggs! LOL David thinks I'm crazy for treating them like pets, but then he grew up on a "real" farm. And, BTW, I have a couple of hens that are a little witchy, too.

GailO said...

This looks like a fun grandchildren, wildflower, hike filled sort of day! Wonderful photos...I hope my pics from our Maine hikes come out half as good when I ever get around to editing them:)

I'm really wanting some chickens...

Susan said...

Oliag, I really think you should GET some chickens! Fair warning, though, they do tie you down, so you need someone reliable to take care of them when you're away.

I am positive that your vacation photos will turn out absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to see them!

Missed you around here and I'm glad you're back.

How many grandchildren do you have? I bet I'll be at least 65 before I see one. My sons aren't even in serious or steady relationships.

Susan said...

Cali Girl, I have 5 lovely grandchildren, getting the first one at 48. I must have started my own family at a much younger age than you did....I was 22 when my oldest was born, but it was my youngest who had the first three...go figure!
