Lauren's Unicorn Birthday

It's hard for me to believe that Lauren Elizabeth is now four years old! It seems like only yesterday that we were unwrapping her swaddling blanket and counting fingers and toes. But the proof is in the pudding....or the cake, to be exact. It was an exciting birthday party....there were dozens of kids attending....well, maybe it was only a dozen, but you know how it is when there are that many running around a house and screaming at the top of their lungs having a wonderful time. There was pizza and wings and veggies and chips....all the foods that kids want at parties. And cake! Don't forget the cake!

There was "pin the horn on the unicorn" for fun.

Lauren loved her unicorn cake.

"Lauren, do you need help blowing out all those candles?" asked Kaitlyn.

Lauren couldn't wait to tear into her presents!

Happy Birthday, sweet girl!

Oh my goodness Susan, you need to go into business! That cake is beautiful. Even extra beautiful because it was made with so much love! As always, your grandkids are adorable.

Completely sweet... I still smile in wonder at the imaginative and *pink* world of little girls. So, glad we get to go to a four-year-old girl party today.

Lauren looked like a pretty princess in her pink dress and matching unicorn cake! She has such sweet expressions, especially there with her helpful assistant Kaitlyn!

very nice cake and party. I think Lauren was peeking during pin the tail!!!

Sandy, you are much too kind! Believe me, I have all the business I can handle from the 5 grandkids and their parents! My wrist was killing me yesterday after I finished this one. I am going to take a few classes though, so I'm not just winging it every time!

Thank you for the nice compliments! :)

Natalie, my goodness, you're up early!! Don't tell me you're another insomniac!

My girls are definitely all about the pink...and princesses and fairy tales. How fun that you get to go to a pink party today! I hope Maria has lots of fun!

Thank you, Wanda! Thank goodness the pizza stains on her face didn't show up too much in the pictures...I'm not sure why none of us thought to wash her face! And cousin Kaitlyn brought a "Birthday Girl" tiara for her to wear, but it didn't show up in any photos either! It was all a little chaotic, to say the least!

Don, I think all the kids peeked during the game!

Thank you! :)

I had to laugh when I saw these. One of my closest lifelong friends gave me an early birthday present on Friday: a photo of the two of us sitting side by side at her 1st grade birthday party eating cake and ice cream at tables in her backyard. We noted that we all wore dresses, so Lauren would have fit right in with her pretty pink frock! These birthday pics will be treasures for these kids someday, but even moreso because of the cakes you made!!!

Lauren looks like a princess in pink. I just can't get over how BIG she is, not the little toddler I've come to know here. Kaitlyn too.

The cake is just beautiful, and so feminine and perfect. How fun to think she will remember it forever, and her wonderful grandma who made her party so special.

Happy Birthday, Lauren!!!!

Susan, that unicorn cake is stunning. So beautiful, pink and perfect (and all that love mixed into the icing). Congratulations on a job well done--and fun, too.

That cake looks great too, Susan! Lovely job!!!!! You could start a business!

Happy Birthday to sweet Lauren!

I think your cake decorating is MAR-VELL-OUS.... you did a great job!!! I didn't see anyone eating cake or licking icing.... but I want a piece!!!!
Love you

Well, you've done it again! Wonderful cake, Susan - and it brings back memories of my mom decorating the most amazing cakes for birthdays, anniversaries and various other special occasions. I wish I had photos of them - you be sure to keep yours, hmm??
I can see that this grandchildren business would be fun - my time will come, I guess.

Mary, what a great gift your friend gave you! I wish I had ones like that from my childhood. I don't remember going to more that 1 or 2 parties and I've lost touch with the honorees.

Thank you for visiting and the nice compliment!

Susan said...

Ruthie, I agree, she does look extra sweet in that frothy pink dress. She was all barefeet and go, go, go underneath though! :D

I hope they will all have wonderful memories of their parties. Having this venue will help, I think. Of course, who knows where blogging will be in 20 years.

Thank you, my dear!

Thank you, Stacy!

Thank you, Char! You've got a couple of sweet, adorable and precious ones yourself!

Susan said...

ds, you are so sweet! I'm not sure I've gotten to the fun stage yet...on the decorating, that is! But the smile on her face was worth all the mess.

Susan said...

CG, I can tell you that I won't be starting a business! I'm too impatient to ever get good enough for that. But you are very sweet for thinking I could. Thank you for the compliments and the birthday wishes. XOXO

Judy (Sis), I didn't put the pictures in of Lauren scraping the entire back side of the cake with her finger and licking it off! LOL I would have, but none of them turned out very well. Love you, too!

Susan said...

Deborah, thank you! And you had better start taking lessons now for those future grands! You can be an expert by the time they come along...and yes, they will be tons of fun! You can't imagine how much different it is than having your own children.

I wish you had pictures of your mom's cakes, too...they would have been a real treasure!

Thank you.

Unicorns!!! So perfect for a 4 yo princess! What fun. The cake is awesome.

Susan said...

Thanks, Elle! I'll bet decorating cakes is among YOUR many talents!

Judy said...

I have looked at that cake ... pretty closely and I don't see where you can improve with lessons.

It isn't everyday a girl turns 4. She looks precious. The Unicorn cake is magical. My Tillie will turn 4 in June. I love how they can transport us back to days of innocence and fairyland.

Susan said...

Sissy, you are too kind! I love you for it!

Susan said...

gemma, thank you for visiting! That's so sweet that your little girl will be 4 also. Too bad they can't get together for a play date along with my other granddaughter, Kaitlyn (also 4). They would have a great time!

Whoo hoo! Back-to-back cake successes! I'm very impressed with your cakeligraphy (tee hee, just made that up) -- you have a very steady hand and beautiful handwriting. Maybe after your cake decorating class you can enroll in a calligraphy class...

I love the picture of Lauren and Kaitlyn together.

GailO said...

I find it hard to believe that you made that cake....beautiful! The unicorn is so detailed...way better than a bundt cake:)...Lauren is so adorable...pinkalicious!

Susan said...

Bella, thank you very much!

Susan said...

dutchbaby, I like your word invention! I'll suggest that Wilton adds it to their lexicon of cake decorating terms! Would you believe that they sell a tip that actually does calligraphy? Mine would probably have been better if I had actually practiced beforehand, instead of winging it!

Aren't the girls sweet together? They're best friends.

Susan said...

Oliag, you give me waaaay too much credit...I printed that unicorn off the computer, cut it out and had it laminated. Believe me!!! I am not that talented, only clever...sometimes. Figured out it might be a good idea to laminate it after Nathan's football got a little grease-soaked from the icing. Office Max--$1.00+tax. And Lauren got to keep it after the cake was history. I even wrote on the back "for Lauren on her 4th birthday, from Grammy". Her daddy loved it...he saves EVERYTHING! So now I have to do that for all of them!

You made the cake? You're a professional! Happy Belated Birthday to the sweet four year old!

Susan said...

You're sweet, Stevie! I think that's a very generous statement! :)

Thanks from the Sweetie!

Isn't it great to be a child and have this much joy over your birthday. She looks like a little princess.

Cindy said...

I'm thinkin' that you're getting really good at cake decorating! That's one professional looking cake. What great childhood memories you're creating!

Susan said...

Sunmallia, yes, I wish I could feel that happy about turning 57 in a couple of months! lol The little princess was wearing a tiara loaned by her cousin Kaitlyn a little while before the picture taking. I'm not sure why she didn't have it on.

Susan said...

Thank you, Cindy! Hopefully they'll remember my creations when they're older. If not, I'll be sure and remind them! :)

Great cake and what a cutie! I'll be 75 before I have a 4 yr old grandchild. My sons are so far away from this I can't even see their futures in five years with wives. Ha! Oh well, they're only 22 & 23 this year. I guess I should be happy they are unattached & unencumbered.

Susan said...

Cali Girl, I can think of one advantage to being that age when you have grandkids....the parents won't ask you to babysit all the time! ;) Maybe you can borrow a couple from your friends to cuddle and kiss until your own come along! :)

Dutchbaby said...

No, I did not know! I'm going to go to Michael's this week to look for that cakeligraphy tip! Thanks for the uh...tip :)

Susan said...

dutchbaby, HA! You're as corny as I am!

I didn't even think of looking at Michael's for Wilton supplies. I've been going to Jo-Ann's. I just bought a cupcake decorating kit this weekend. It even has the long tip that you use to do filled cupcakes and also that big swirly one. Cupcakes anyone?
