Monday Movie Meme: Repeat after me...

Molly at The Bumbles has chosen Highly Quotable Movies as her theme this week. I love quotes from movies, probably because at heart I'm a plagiarist and someone else's words almost always sound better than my own.

I know it's technically a mini-series, but it's a great movie to me...just extra long...my choice is Lonesome Dove.

"I hate rude behavior in a man. I won't tolerate it."

"I'm just tryin' to keep everything in balance, Woodrow. You do more work than you got to, so it's my obligation to do less."

"Well, I'm glad I ain't scared to be lazy."

"Well, hell, boys. I'd damn sight rather be hung by my friends than by a bunch o' damn strangers."

"I'god, a man could get rich in the grave digging business around here."

"A man that will talk to a pig ain't no better than a farmer."

"Well we don't rent pigs and I figure it's better to say it right out front because a man that does like to rent pigs is... he's hard to stop."

"I never noticed you having accidents with ugly girls."

"It ain't dyin' I'm talkin' about, it's livin'."

"Well, Gus; there you go. I guess this will teach me to be more careful about what I promise people in the future."

[This list doesn't contain any of the memorable exchanges between Gus and Woodrow.]

I count Lonesome Dove as one of my favorite books, mostly because of the dialog. I read the sequel and the prequel and everything in between and loved each one.

I agree with steviewren...loved the books and I'm was happy they made a miniseries out of them...a movie alone would not have been possible!

Ahem. I didn't even know it was a book first. Nor did I ever see the series. And FURTHERmore I had no idea it was so good.

Well. Something will have to be done about this.

I LOVE these movies!! This is great "I'm just tryin' to keep everything in balance, Woodrow. You do more work than you got to, so it's my obligation to do less."
:o)

Those quotes are GREAT! Can you believe I've never read the books nor seen the movies? I think I get nervous with Westerns. Silly me.

Lonesome Dove is a staple in my family, and the best western I think I have ever seen; especially one that was made for TV! Great choice and loved the quotes you chose :)

Me, too, stevie. It really is a love story between two friends. It never gets old with me. I read the books, too.

I agree, Oliag. It's even better now that you can watch it on DVD and don't have to bother with the commercials and the intros.

Well, DEBORAH! Have you been hiding in a cave the last 21 years? You must see it. Really. Especially being from Canadian cowboy country. This is THE best western ever made, and I don't say that lightly. It has every element that makes a western great. I've probably watched it in its entirety (6 hours) ten times and it never gets old to me. It is timeless.

You picked a good one, Elle, and it's something that I try to emulate in my life. ;)

Sandy, good grief, woman! Rent the damned thing and watch it. You won't be sorry, except first buy some stock in Kleenex. It's that good.

Lindsey, a woman after my own heart! My whole family loves it, too. We own the VHS set and the DVD set. I haven't watched it in a while. I think it's about time to find six hours...

I like that one about not getting in accidents with ugly girls.

OK, Susie, I have a confession. We watched the first episode of Lonesome Dove last night. I wasn't hooked, and I had a hard time understanding the dialogue. What shall I do, what shall I do? I know I should finish it, but, but, but. Me a RD fan, and him saying it's his favorite role, and you loving it, etc., etc. Oh dear.

I loved the book and I loved the mini series and I love, love, love Robert Duvall. He may be my favorite actor.

I enjoyed some of the quotes from Steel Magnolias.

Looks like two pigs fightin' under a blanket.

Miss Truvy, I promise that my personal tragedy will not interfere with my ability to do good hair.

There's so much static electricity in this room, I pick up everything but boys and money.

Ruthie, my dear, I wouldn't let it bother me for another second. I'm sure you aren't the only one in the world who didn't get into LD. That's why they make thousands of movies every year. If it's not your cup of tea, then just move on. You don't have to feel obligated to watch the rest. I'll still love ya...:) I bet even RD will still love ya! ;)

Bella< I wish I could find a hairdresser whose "personal tragedies did not interfere with her ability to do hair"!

And just listening to Dolly Parton talk brings a smile to my face. Her interviews on talk shows are legendary!

Apparently I need to watch this movie!

OMG! I am completely scandalized that you didn't include Danny Glover (I forget the character's name) : "I don't wanna shoot'cha, and you don't wanna be dead." But I forgive you. :)
