Valentine's Day dresses and messes

The cupcakes I made for V-day were tasty vanilla with seven-minute frosting, but the sprinkles on top made a huge mess. They are all over the kitchen and dining room. The grandkids liked them, so I suppose it was worth it.

Matthew is soooo close to crawling!

The girls are wearing their jumpers handmade by Grammy. They fit perfectly and I must be a good guesser, because I didn't measure anything, not even the length. I was holding my breath on that one. It's hard to see because of the heart pattern, but Lauren's has a side pleat and Kaitlyn's has a double flounce. They both have heart-shaped buttons, but they disappear into the other hearts.

Nathan is reading a book to his dad, Daniel, and to Matthew, who didn't make it into the photo. He is progressing very quickly with his reading.

Poppy and Gaige are enjoying a cuddle on the sofa.

Angel could be having fun for hours with this unexpected surprise.

The girls look very well turned out - great job!

Sanna, I think the cats would have a field day if only the little balls of sugar were just a tad larger.

Thank you! It was nice to be sewing again. I went right out and bought fabric for 2 more dresses. White daisies on a blue background will look nice for spring, I think.

I think some of the sprinkles made it onto those great jumpers! :D

They are adorable! Are they corduroy? or velour? or fleece?

Everyone looks so cozy, you obviously make everyone feel at home. The photo of Poppy and Gaige is so sweet, and seeing the dusk outside and reflection of the lamp shows your lovely setting.

Nice!

Ruth, they do sort of match, don't they? I never noticed before. They're made of really soft, fine-wale corduroy. It makes such nice children's clothing.

Poppy and Gaige are big buddies. Nathan's kind of my little guy. Of course, we love them all equally, but sometimes they lean a little more toward one or the other.

Wow you sew too? Incredibly cute dresses! How did those cupcakes look on them?

Thank you for sharing your beautiful family with us!

how adorable - glad you had a great time.

You're a woman after my own heart with that 7 minute icing! It takes a dedicated cooker to whip up a batch of that wondrous stuff. Sprinkles are a real pain, aren't they? I'm not fond of them myself but for holiday baking I use them.

The girls' dresses are so pretty. They remind me of a pattern I made for my daughter when she was little. I must admit it feels good to create a hand-sewn item, but I find cooking easier and less stressful.

Yummy cupcakes! The girls dresses are adorable-how talented you are!

Cindy, the cupcakes blended in nicely with the dresses! :D Glad I didn't have to wash them!

I used to sew all the time, but got out of the habit when we moved here almost 9 years ago. I don't like sewing in my drab basement. I finally decided to move my machines upstairs so I could look out the window. So I'm easing back into it with the simple jumpers. I'm hoping to make them lots of summer outfits which are easy-peasy.

And thank you!

Thank you, Char!

Amy, it had been so long since I had made that frosting. It was so yummy! I think I almost like it better than buttercream. Not as heavy and I like that crisp outside after it sits a bit.

Thank you! I know what you mean. Cooking is less stressful, at least as long as everything is going according to the plan. I actually had to scan the pattern instructions into the computer and send it to my friend in PA who is an expert seamstress. She helped me figure out over the phone what was confusing me! Isn't technology grand?!!

Tipper, thank you! And I'm no more talented than you are! :)

Hey Sis your pics are great. I love the little sweetie dresses on the little sweetie pie girls. I can almost taste those pretty cupcakes. Were the boys jealous that you didn't make anything for them? Matthew is growing like a weed, he will be walking before you know it. Your family is wonderful.
Love you

I love you, too, Sissy. I ate one of those cupcakes for you! Or was it 2 or 3? Anyway, they were good!

I asked Gaige if he wanted me to make something for him and Nathan and he stuck out his hand as if to stop me and said "No thanks, Grammy!" I think he thought I would make them dresses! LOL

Kelly's determined to have Matthew crawl before he walks. Good luck! His daddy sure didn't!

YUMMY! Both for those cupcakes and those wonderful jumpers! No measuring? They look perfect! Are those cute girls sisters or cousins? Aren't grandchildren fun?!

Hi Susan, Amy at Twelve Acres did a post on biscuits she learned from you. I was looking through you blog for a post on how to make them. But I could not find them. I have tried for year to make biscuits like my Aunt in WV. And only came close 2 times to have edible biscuits. I know she puts a bit of sugar white Crisco Hudson cream self rising flower + a bit more soda or baking prouder not sure which. Maybe a pinch of salt. She don't let any one know all she uses. But the bottoms are like pizza huts pan pizza she puts oil in bottom of pan. If you do a post as the photo of heres are big like my aunts. I would be grateful.Have a wonderful weekend.
