So, my granddaughter Kaitlyn has decided I need a new wardrobe. She must think that I shouldn't be wearing shorts and tank tops at my advanced age. So the other day she cut pictures from an advertisement in the Sunday newspaper's coupon insert. This is how she would like me to dress from now on.
See, there's a different one for every day of the week! Oh, darn! She cut off the important ordering information. Maybe they'll run this one again in Sunday's paper! I can only hope.

Looks cool and I like the front pockets.
I was going to say that they look nice and simple with no need for thought...
wait - OMG is that a ZIPPER behind that bow?!!
She wants you to dress in a granny pinny!
These were in the paper?? They look super comfy and remind me of the Sears catalog. I actually wouldn't mind wearing these around the farm. I need something to replace my winter robe . . .
I think you would be chaaming dahling.
OMG..too funny. My SIL has gained some weight and her granddaughter (7) said, "you shouldn't wear those BAGGY shorts cuz they make you look fat". out of the mouths of babes
These just make me laugh and laugh!...This is exactly what my grandma wore...and always sleeveless because her upper arms were too big to be comfortable in sleeves:) In her 80's she did finally discover how comfortable pant suits could be...I'll bet these dresses are polyester too...
omg -that's nursing home clothes. LOL
did you beat her? hahahaha KIDDING
Joanna, my mom loved these dresses. Easy on, easy off, and cool when you're sweltering in the summer heat.
Sanna, I sure wouldn't have to worry about how fat I'm getting, would I?!!!
Ruthie, I actualy have a little terry after-bath kind of dress thing-y that I got from my sister. And it is very comfortable. I could get used to wearing something like that every day. The only problem is I would never be able to go anywhere!
Diane, I can't wait until one of my grands says something like that. I'm cutting them out of the will if they do! :)
Oliag, I think they're some cotton/poly blend. Easy care, y'know! My mom was so excited when polyester came into fashion. I don't think she ever ironed another garment!
Char, you must have read my mind! I wasthisclose! Just kidding! bwahahahaha!!!!!!
A shapeless shift! Never! At this age, I hate my arms so much, they never see the light of day, unfortunately. If I'm outside gardening with a cami on top, I always have a shirt handy to pop on if I hear a car coming up the driveway!
What a hoot! Secretly I would love to wear that around the house, but NO ONE, not even my DH, could be home!
Our family called it a "house dress" and my grandma would wear something like that. I was thinking about this myself- that this would be comfortable to work in at home.
Be sure to buy the matching house shoes!
This cracked me up! I was complaining to my family recently about gaining a bit of weight and Isabel said "Mommy, you're not fat, you just need bigger clothes." I can't tell you how many times I've heard that it all changes when you turn 50. Maybe it was the power of suggestion... but they were right. Now it's a matter of moving more and eating less. That's not any fun. Those dresses are looking mighty comfortable to me!
Alaine, I think my arms are the least of my concerns! The truth is I probably shouldn't be wearing shorts in public and every summer I say I'm not going to do it, and then I do it anyway. I just get too darned hot and can't stand having my legs covered, at least from the knee down. Getting older is sooooo much fun!
CG, I would secretly love to wear them, too! And I'm sure it will get to the point where I'll be anticipating those lovely ads in the Sunday paper! :)
Oh, Judy, that's what we always called them, too! Or dusters. Where in the world did that come from? Maybe it was one you put over your "housedress" to wear while dusting the furniture!
Amy, definitely gotta have the house shoes! I believe in housewifeing in complete comfort!
Cindy, I just love your Isabel! What a sweetie!
Ah, yes, the magic age of 50! Actually I was in great shape at 50, then it started to slide, and I do mean slide! The butt is sliding down the backs of my thighs, which are slding down into my knees! Ugh! Gotta go do some squats!
I needed a chuckle today, so I came back to see that post again... what else can we do but laugh about it all? Your response has me in tears I'm laughing so hard. My nearly 80 year old mother finds my complaints very humorous. We just need to enjoy the moment we're in. Have a good day!
Ah, Cindy, you can commiserate with me any old time! Too bad we don't live close to each other--we could work on those sliding butts together! And by that I mean sit on the porch under the ceiling fan and drink iced tea until we float away. :)
the post is funny, the comments hilarious! your responses are hilarious.
the cut outs reminded me of paper dolls. I would have probably tried all the dresses on the main girl just for fun.
you're right to want to beat her! :)
Cali Girl, I didn't realize there were so many like minds out there on the subject of housedresses!
Ooh, yeah, paper dolls! Most of the time we were too poor to afford the real store-bought kind so we had to cut them out of catalogs. Did you do that, too? Remember McCall's magazine? They used to have a Betsy McCall paper doll every month! Do girls even play with paper dolls anymore?
This has been a fun commentary! I've laughed out loud, not just LOL!
OMG! OK, those do look comfortable, but sort of have the "I've completely given up being sexy or even slightly attractive" look as well. I think it is soo funny that your granddaughter thinks those would look better than shorts and a tank top. Kids are funny. BTW, if I have managed to aompletely offend you and you actually LIKE those dresses, the Vermont Country Store catalog has all kinds of clothes like that. I was looking through them at my grandmother's house (naturally). :)
I came back to see what other comments you rec'd. Yes, I remember the Betsy McCall paper doll. Mother took that magazine and I cut them out. I loved paper dolls. I don't know if they exist any longer. Might be fun and possibly lucrative to resurrect.
Vanessa, believe me, you didn't offend!
They DO look comfortable! Right up there with elastic waistband pants and smocks! If don't stop have waffle ice cream cones every night for dessert, I'll be wearing all of the above!
My MIL gets that catalog! Definitely on the matronly side of fashion!
Cali Girl, I actually bought my granddaughters magnetic "sort of" paper dolls for Christmas. They're thick cardboard material with glossy printing. Shoot, half the fun of paper dolls was cutting them out yourself and being devastated when you realized you cut off one or more of the little tabs that held the clothes onto the doll. Arrrghhh!
Crap,I'm still going to wear shorts and tanks - no, don't stop me. If I have to wear granny mu-mu's after 50 just shoot me now.
Can't tend to the chicken's when your whole fanny is exposed to those in the yard.
The chicks will quit laying eggs after that vision!
LOL! Yeah, me too, Jackee! Probably until I'm 90 or dead, whichever comes first. The chickens would probably be seriously disturbed if I bent over wearing one of those! They already get freaked out enough when I wear my sun hat out in the yard!
Hey Cindy! Maybe that's why your hens stopped laying!
Gotta love kids! They mean well, yes? But actually, those look very comfortable, pretty, summery :))
Hugs!
Karen, you just never know what is running through a child's mind, do you? They really do look comfy. I'm getting more used to them all the time! :)
Hugs to you!
