The River and the Sea
"The river is within us, the sea is all about us . . ."
— T S Eliot (Four Quartets)
How does the river run within the sea?
Like the coyote, bounding deer-like
in the soy bean field last evening,
and behind him the honeyed sun
a young girl’s hair, cascading among
the trees. He distanced gradually
from the road we cycled, his body
now disappearing beneath
the shrubby, wavy green, now
reappearing in the bob and bounce
of a cork retreating from shore. Like
a dream. Like a secret stone that leaps
as the sun sets, an opal, a tiger’s eye,
to the horizon, until he and the sun are one.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
~President Dwight David Eisenhower

Sing it, Frankie! Love those horns!
Thanks, Susan for making me do the groove thing this morning!
satellite radio has a sinatra station that I listen to all the time. great choice
too much talk of rain, for you?!
this just sounds so happy.
Girls, I'm in an Italian kind of mood today! I've Dino and Tony on Facebook crooning their little hearts out.
Thanks for this Susan!...I have to admit the rain is getting to me this summer:)...I love Frank (and I share a birthday with him!)
You're welcome! Isn't youtube wonderful? I love Frank, too. And Dean and Tony...all those great Italian crooners. And what orchestras, eh? This must have been recorded when he was with Tommy Dorsey.
Nobody does it quite like Frankie! You can barely stop yourself from swaying.
After a week of daily thundershowers "nothin' but blue skies from now on" sounds wonderful! And boy, could Ol' Blue Eyes push a rhythm! Thank you.
Ooh, Sandy, speaking of "swaying", there's a cool YouTube video of Dean Martin singing "Sway". I'm serious, when you hear it, you just cannot stop yourself from dancing!
You are so right, ds! Frankie pushed the rhythm like no one else! I hope you get some of those blue skies soon!
Hey Susan, thanks for stopping by my blog:)Nice blog you have here. I added you to my blogroll, so I'll definitely come back.
Susan, since I've been having bout of "beautiful nostalgia" today anyway, this song just fits in so perfectly. Thank you!
Karen
Welcome Andreea! Thank you for visiting and I'll be visiting you, too.
Hi Karen, it's nice to see you! I know when I get on this kick I go around the house and everywhere driving everyone else crazy by my singing all the old songs.
You are the sweetest! Your blue sky wishes with Frank joined many others. In spite of them all, the farm decided to grace us with soft rainfall, and everyone agreed it was perfectly cozy and romantic. How ironic is that?
Ruthie, blue skies are in the eye of the beholder! Apparently "someone" else knew better than you what you needed for a "perfect" day.
I love that song. I just let it play while I did other tasks. Thanks for bringing some cheer to me today while I sit at my computer!
Linda
Hi Linda! Thanks for coming over! I checked out your blog and really like it. Was in a hurry this morning, but I'll be back! Glad I brought a little sunshine your way!
I love Frank! I have a 4 CD book of his classics, as well as lots of the young guys who sound like him.. Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr., Matt Dusk... sigh... :)
Thanks for the tune!
Natashya, I love Michael Buble and Harry Connick Jr., but I've never heard of Matt Dusk. Will have to google! I'm always up for a smooth singer!
Nothing like a little Frank, is there?
Matt Dusk is a young Canadian fella.
Here is a couple of his songs, if you like the others you will likely like him!
