I'm not one to brag, but....

Hey! Guess what? A few months ago, a representative from Mother Earth News contacted me about some photos I posted on their website photo uploading page. She was interested in seeing more, so I submitted four or five pictures for her consideration. In a few weeks she contacted me again saying that a couple of them might be published in one of the summer issues. Honestly, it was so long ago that I had forgotten about it.

This morning I went out to the mailbox and in there was an envelope with three Aug/Sept issues of Mother. I was puzzled as to why there were three...did they mess up my recent renewal by sending me extras instead of extending the subscription?

It didn't dawn on me until I turned to the CU pages. I looked at the featured pictures and thought "Gee, that one looks familiar, and...WHAT!!!" There they were, one on each page, with my name underneath.  AAAAAHHHHHH!  You would have thought I had won the lottery! Too bad I didn't get any money for them, but it was really fun seeing them in a national magazine.

The first photo is one I shot for LensUsTogether... the theme was 'abandoned' and I think it was the second week.

The second one you will probably remember as one of my headers last year. I also used it in my post 'The Bridges of Union County'.

I'm thinking of submitting a few to the magazine 'Country'. I think I'm hooked!

How cool is that!!!! Wow, I know a celebrity photographer! Woohoo!

That is just so wonderful, I can't contain myself! I lift my glass to you, dear lady, those are fabulous photos, and it's tremendous that you were recognized for them!

Keep submitting, keep submitting!

You really are an amazing photographer. I think you need to get some cash for them though. And yes, I echo Judy...more kitties (especially Sassy Baby Kitty).

YIPPEEE!!!!!!!! How wonderful, and how well deserved. I remember the covered bridge, but "Abandoned" is phenomenal. Oh, keep submitting, Susan. This is just brilliant. Fantastic. Fabulous....(Big Hug)

Dude - you need to submit photos for cash. Just make sure you don't give away your rights to them or restrict your ability to have them published elsewhere whenever you like.

What a total thrill - I think I would just cry from joy if that happened to me. Good to know your talents are appreciated by the little people as well as those with a professional eye for photographic taste!

YAY Susan :0)

Susan, congratulations! You must feel as though you've won the lottery. I would. I think your posting to their site gives them tacit approval to use your photos. How about contacting them and other magazines to see if they pay for images?

Congratulations! Both these photos have a lot of personality and sense of place.

Oh wow oh wow!! Congratulations Susan...this is just fantastic!...and well deservered I might add...I remember both these pics well...but so many of your pics would be deserving...I agree that you should keep on submitting!

The honor alone would be payment enough for me if anyone wanted to use my pics...I'm going to have to remember to buy that magazine when it comes out so I can show it off and tell people that those pics where taken by my friend:)

Aren't you something!!! Now you can call youself a writer-photographer. National Geographic will be calling next!

May I have your autograph, please?

Congratulations!

First of all, to all you lovely ladies, each and every one of you could do the same thing. I don't have any higher skills than any of you. I have a good camera and I'm pretty good at framing a shot, that's all. It's just a matter of putting them out there in the right place at the right time. Several of you are much, much better photgraphers than I am and could easily make money on the awesome pictures you display on your blogs. So there.

Ruthie, I know! My little five nano-seconds of fame! And I really needed an idea for a post and this one wrote itself. (I need more of that kind. ;0)

I am really hooked now. I must get my camera tuned up, because I've been having issues with the macro setting and it's driving me crazy. Macro is my favorite.

Thank you, my friend.

Thank you, Judy! So much fun!

Sassy is getting fat and I don't know how because she stays outside most of the time. She must be cleaning out the rodent population! I'll get some new pics soon.

Susan said...

Thank you, Tattered!

Susan said...

Sandy, thank you, you amazing photgrapher woman yourself. I've been salivating over the pics of your trip to Yosemite and Grand Canyon.

Sassy isn't much of a kitten anymore. She's even mellowing out. Gosh, they grow up so fast!

Susan said...

ds, you sweetie, thank you! I'm reveling in my little piece of fame...it's pretty nice. Of course, they do this in every issue and there are several pics on each page, so I'm not exactly unique, but it's nice to be recognized.

Dude(Molly), I think you have something there. Cash...cash is good. I can't even remember how it went down now, but I'm sure I must have agreed to some kind of release, although I didn't formally sign anything on paper, so I'm probably OK, legalwise.

I'll try not to be too haughty to the "little people" up here on my throne...LOL!!! Thanks, Dude!

Susan said...

Cali Girl, I'm pretty sure I didn't sign away my rights to the photos, but I guess I should look into some copyright protection for future endeavors. I have a little lame-ass freebie one that I use here, but I'm sure it's probably not worth the computer screen it's written on. It's like people who buy security signs to post on their properties hoping it will scare away would-be thieves.

I think you're on to something with asking for cold, hard cash.

Thank you, dear friend!

Hi Barb! Thank you very much! Your photos of the ever-beautiful photo-op Colorado are awesomely excellent!

Susan said...

Oliag, photographer extraordinaire, that means a lot coming from you, thank you.

It was quite a little thrill seeing them on those pages with my name underneath, although they actually look a lot better here. I'm not sure it's worth $5.99 to see them in print, but it's a great magazine and you'll enjoy reading it. I should buy copies for all my lovely friends here! Just for being so sweet and supportive.

Susan said...

Deb, you're stretching it a bit, methinks! I don't really believe NG will be interested in my paltry attempts when they have truly amazing people to choose from. But it's really sweet of you to say it. Thank you, luv.

Susan said...

Thank you, sweet Sanna! I'll autograph a copy for you! :-)

Wanda..... said...

Wow, Susan! I can just imagine how thrilled you were to see your photos in Mother Earth News...I would be too. I bet they would like the one of the eggs on the chair in your all season room!

Susan said...

Thank you, Wanda! That's a great idea about Feather's egg-laying spot! I may use it.

Sandy aka Doris the Great said...

Congrats! Now, let's hope a fat cheque follows in the mail! (But recognition is pretty sweet in itself!)

Kathryn said...

Congratulations Susan! You made it into print! I've had a couple of requests from publishers of on-line periodicals to use my photos (they found them on flickr), but no pay, and nothing in actual print. My hat goes off to you and those lovely shots!

Susan said...

Thank you, Sandy! A fat check would have been nice, but won't happen. They have this spread every month, featuring readers submitted pictures. But they have a pretty big following, so I guess it's something of an honor to be chosen.

Susan said...

Thank you, Kathryn! It was quite a little thrill...I don't get much excitement in my life, so it was much appreciated.

Very, very cool. I'm not surprised though, you take wonderful pictures! I should seek out the magazine so I can say I knew you when.

What wonderful news!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by - Char is a sweetie! And I hope you enjoy the textures! thanks so much for helping with Maggie's expenses! We are so close!! Small world!! Hopefully we will meet up one day!

Wow! Congratulation, Susan and well-deserving! Pity you weren't paid; after all, they make money with their magazine.

Elle Bee said...

Susan, that is so awesome! Congratulations. Those photos are beautiful--I'm not surprised at all that you are a featured photographer!

Susan said...

Stacy, that's very sweet of you, but I don't think it will make me famous....hehehe. You'll like the magazine. Even if you live in an urban area, it's chock full of ideas for getting closer to the earth and living a greener life.

Susan said...

O. Joy, thank you for stopping by my blog! I was more than happy to help out. Maggie is such a sweet-faced doggie...who could resist?

Since we're only about 35 miles apart, I see no reason why we couldn't meet sometime.

Your photography is amazing!

Susan said...

Hi Alaine! Thank you so much! Maybe I'll find someone someday who will actually pay to use my photos. It's not that important to me...it was a thrill just to see them in print.

Susan said...

Thank you, Elle, you sweet girl!

Cindy said...

How exciting! but they need to pay you. My hubby sells his work to Mother Earth regularly, so we often have copies around. I'll have to check it out. Congratulations! Those photos are beautiful!

Deborah said...

Note to Kathryn: anything that gets that hat off your head is a darn good thing!

VaNeSsA said...

Good for you, Luv! I enjoy your pictures very much!

Yippee! How fantastic is this. They are beautiful photos and I completely get why they were chosen and why it's exciting for you. Your work was recognized. That's good for the spirit. Keep submitting... again and again!

Susan said...

But, Cindy, your hubby is a professional, or at least he has your professional advice. That CU page is for amateurs, and I'm definitely a rank amateur. It was fun seeing my name in print under my photos.

Susan said...

LOL, Deborah! For everyone else, Kathryn is Deborah's cousin-in-law. hehehe

Susan said...

Thank you, Vanessa dear!

Susan said...

Thank you, Bella, you're awfully nice to say so. :) XO
