The River and the Sea
"The river is within us, the sea is all about us . . ."
— T S Eliot (Four Quartets)
How does the river run within the sea?
Like the coyote, bounding deer-like
in the soy bean field last evening,
and behind him the honeyed sun
a young girl’s hair, cascading among
the trees. He distanced gradually
from the road we cycled, his body
now disappearing beneath
the shrubby, wavy green, now
reappearing in the bob and bounce
of a cork retreating from shore. Like
a dream. Like a secret stone that leaps
as the sun sets, an opal, a tiger’s eye,
to the horizon, until he and the sun are one.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
~President Dwight David Eisenhower

yay for challenges!!!
great jazz too
I love that music! O'Day's voice is so relaxing. My twins stopped what they were doing just to listen. :o)
Fabulous! I mean it. Like listening to silk if silk could sing and don't you love that hat? Thanks!
Great song, but I'm more impressed that you met your self-imposed challenge. Good for you :D
Oh that was such a lovely surprise waiting for me here! I searched and searched through the thousand channels we get and I didn't find the Documentary Channel - what's up with that?! Congrats on your daily posting - not so scary is it?
Char, it seems this is the only kind I can fulfill! lol
Glad the twins (and you) liked it, Elle. Gotta get 'em started early on good music!
Oh, Bella, I love that..."like listening to silk, if silk could sing"! Mind if I steal that line? That hat is fabulous! I could see myself wearing it.
Thanks, ds! Yeah, I'm kinda weird that way. ;)
Molly, we have DirecTv, so maybe they're the only one who offers it. It's available on Netflix, too. I've already put it on my queue, because I missed half of it.
Not scary...but it probably won't happen very often. ;)
I was being impressed by your so very frequent posts! Love the song!
LOL, Oliag!
...that is a great song, one of my all-time favorites.
