The River and the Sea
"The river is within us, the sea is all about us . . ."
— T S Eliot (Four Quartets)
How does the river run within the sea?
Like the coyote, bounding deer-like
in the soy bean field last evening,
and behind him the honeyed sun
a young girl’s hair, cascading among
the trees. He distanced gradually
from the road we cycled, his body
now disappearing beneath
the shrubby, wavy green, now
reappearing in the bob and bounce
of a cork retreating from shore. Like
a dream. Like a secret stone that leaps
as the sun sets, an opal, a tiger’s eye,
to the horizon, until he and the sun are one.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

The fog was so thick on my way to work this morning it was disorienting. Haunting!
Kinda cool.
Char, I hear ya!
Jackee, I hate driving in fog! I always feel as if I'm in some other world. Guess that could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it.
Let's see what Sunday brings: a lion or a lamb!
I hear ya! I'm so tired of the gray, damp BLAH. I need some sunshine! I need some green! Come on spring!
Come hell or high water, I'm posting my new spring header Sunday.
It's raining cats and dogs right now, and I left my umbrella home because it was sunny out this morning when I left. Who reads a weather report? Now I have to leave for poetry group with my coat over my head.
But i isn't snow!
Yeah, I isn't snow. No I isn't. But you know, I meant it.
Well, Sanna, I suppose if tradition holds, we'll be holding onto our hats and trying to stay on our feet. I guess winter can't last forever. Oops, I hope I didn't jinx us!
Amy, I can almost taste Spring! The birds are singing spring songs already, so surely it can't be too far away. Green grass! Sunshine! What luxuries!
Ruthie, thank goodness you had a coat with you! I'm always getting caught without the proper equipment.
I can't wait to see your new header! I'm sure it will be as beautiful as the others have been.
And no, you isn't snow, but you is rain! :)
I love the Zits!
I have to repack for FL trip as I see it is only going to be in the 60's :( - taking out the bathing suit:( Warmer than where I am now tho!
(word verification=boatin)
Oh, Oliag! I wish I were going to Florida! We had planned to go around this time ourselves to visit family and it's just not going to happen. :(
Even though you can't swim, you can still walk on the beach and that's my favorite part.
I hope you get to do some "boatin"!
Zits is one of my favorites. Reminds me so much of my own teenage sons (long ago).
Is there any way we can just skip on ahead to May 24th?
I'd like that.
I miss my deck. I miss the sun.
Sigh.
Natashya, that would be great! Let's put in our order right now.
Yep!!
