There has been a delay.....

......in our northern sojourn.

First I have to show you these mystery photos. I have looked in Rome, and Venice, and then Florence and they are nowhere to be found. I'm hoping that someone with Italy on their dance card will come up with names.

The building in the background has a fairly distinctive architecture. Just for fun, when you enlarge it, there's a gardener on the right using a waterhose and slightly in the foreground is, I think, a manual lawn mower.

The ladies are having tea in the garden with another lady. The lady on the right is trying to catch a little shade from the ornamental tree.

And now, for the most mysterious scene of all.....

What the heck are those crazy women doing? Some weird ritual in an almost empty room? Is it a room in one of the buildings in the other picture? And, they're all dressed in black, including the new one. Curiouser and curiouser. All theories are welcomed.

Next time, we're heading north, for sure.

is that a hotel named victoria in the last photo? looks like a knucklebump shot! LOL is she being arrested in front of the hotel?

A most unusal casual photo for them.
Maybe this meeting was the purpose of their visit. A secret pact?
Very strange - they all have their left arms behind their back and their hands are still gloved...

yes, this part is annoying!

Maybe dance classes? Bizarre, but way too cool. I showed the pictures to my husband, who is European (Polish) and had no idea where the pictures were. Let your imagination go wild, and you'd have a story here!

That's a very distinctive building in the first shot - hope someone remembers it - could be gone by now. LBx

Maybe they've travelled here for a funeral? But where is it? Looks Russian that building.

Aren't they always dressed in black?

They look like I did when I was in 6th grade after holding my hands' back sides against the door jamb for a couple of minutes, then moving out and my arms went up by themselves.

Char, I meant to include that in my post and forgot! It is Victoria, but whether it's a hotel is anybody's guess. If they were in London, I would say Victoria Station, but it probably doesn't even look like it. I did a search on buildings with that name in Italy and came up with bupkis.

LOL, that's what I thought, oh they're doing a fist bump!

Sanna, annoying is a good word! Maybe they belong to some secret sorority. I just noticed that the window dressings look like buntings of some sort, or very large bats, if you've had too many glasses of wine.

And is that a gentleman or lady on the far left? Why are the chairs in such haphazard disarray?

Sandy, dance classes was one of my thoughts, too. And letting my imagination go wild is my problem. I'm all over the place with this story!

Coccinella, a funeral is something I thought of, but I'm not sure they would have done all the sightseeing if the trip had been for a funeral, or maybe so.

Both the buildings have distinctive shapes. I keep wondering in the last picture, if they might have already left Italy.

LOL, Ruthie! Of course they are! With a couple of exceptions. It was probably a lot easier to keep the black dresses clean.

I forgot about that little trick! I'll have to try it and see if it still works. My arms are a lot heavier these days!

UG-don't you wish the photo could just talk and tell us what in the world they are doing!!!

I've so enjoyed the journey of the book-such a neat idea for posts!

I know, Tipper, I've imagined so many scenarios and analyzed every picture, but I'm afraid it's a mystery that will never be solved.

I'm so glad you're enjoying it!

They do sort of look like they are dancing. But it still doesn't quite look like that's the answer. Very odd, I'm loving every minute of this. It's like peeping in a window to the past.

Now we know what just might happen someday in the future with those goofy pictures my friends and I always take. The story will disappear, and anyone who sees the photo will just say, "What the...?" and it will remain forever a mystery.

I think the ladies are sparring with either real or imagined fencing foils. They have their left arm tucked behind their back, so as to not get stabbed in the arm, and it looks like they are in the middle of a parry. My son fenced for about four years; I recognize the stance. I will ask my blogger friend Yoli at musings, http://prettyparrot.blogspot.com/, for confirmation. She was a fencer for many years.

This is such a cool series, Susan!

Finally the mystery is solved! dutchbaby, you rock! So cool!
