An impossible dream is realized
Until this past year, I never dreamed that in my lifetime I would see an African-American man standing at a podium bearing the presidential seal. But that day has come. A day that Martin Luther King dared to dream and laid out for us on the same spot where Barack Obama will take the oath of office of the President of the United States today. It thrills me to be able to say those words. I know I am not alone in those feelings. Even those who do not share the vision of Barack Obama surely will see hope in this historic moment and feel good about what it means.
It truly is "America the Beautiful".

Ohh.
My niece just told me she thinks the whole thing is overhyped. And me, I am feeling that everything has changed. Even if he doesn't do another thing, we have changed because he is President. How anyone doesn't feel the profundity of the moment is beyond me.
I loved the first video. Those images! I couldn't get the second to load, but I'll come back again later and try.
Wonderful, Susan. Thank you.
Dear Ruth, it is just my puny attempt at expressing my feelings on this wonderful day. I had to say a little something about the way I'm feeling or burst.
God bless America!
Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther King could walk. Martin Luther King walked so Obama could run. Obama ran so we can all fly.
don't know the author, but isn't that nice?
Most excellent comments! I completely agree!
Thanks for stopping by my blog a bit ago -- for some reason I just saw your nice comment today and am now seeing your blog for the first time. It IS very good and I would enjoy returning.
I live on a 4-acre acreage out in Iowa and, like you, was raised on a farm.
Take care.
PS I also did a little post about President Obama today and even used the same picture you did! Heh! Great minds think alike, right!!
Joanna, I love that quote also.
Russell, thank you and welcome to my humble blog! Please stop by often...I love having visitors!
Stay warm out there in the grasslands!
For the first time in so many years, I'm feeling proud to be an American!
So do I, Cindy, so do I.
Very nice post susan and I love the videos. Ray Charles really does America the Beautiful justice.
It is a dream come true...especially with every "color" coming together to vote a black man into the presidency! It makes you think that mankind as a whole may stand a chance.
I really admire him for just the willingness to take on our nation when it is in such trouble!! He deserves all our support. Yes, we can!!
"The times, they are a changin!"
Thank you, Bill. Yes, you feel it in your soul when Ray sings those words.
Yes, we can! Tammy, what we all have to remember is that this is not an end, but the beginning of a very long and tough climb out of the morass of the last eight years. He will need a lot of help.
Yes, the times are changing. Dylan just didn't know it was going to take us almost fifty years. The wheels do grind slowly.
