The River and the Sea
"The river is within us, the sea is all about us . . ."
— T S Eliot (Four Quartets)
How does the river run within the sea?
Like the coyote, bounding deer-like
in the soy bean field last evening,
and behind him the honeyed sun
a young girl’s hair, cascading among
the trees. He distanced gradually
from the road we cycled, his body
now disappearing beneath
the shrubby, wavy green, now
reappearing in the bob and bounce
of a cork retreating from shore. Like
a dream. Like a secret stone that leaps
as the sun sets, an opal, a tiger’s eye,
to the horizon, until he and the sun are one.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

It looks like everyone had fun! Is that you holding the baby? You should have been here to help peel apples today. Next year you definitely have to come to the Apple Fest. I'll send you home with more apples than you can carry!
That looks like a great place for kids, what a blast. Happy Birthday to Gaige!
Thanks a bunch for coming over to synchronizing, and for your nice comment, Susan.
Amy, that is the elusive Susan holding the babe. I'm rarely in the photos 'cause I'm usually the one behind the lens. Hey, I'm a great apple peeler! My mom taught me how to peel the whole apple in one continuous strip. I'm definitely coming to the Fest next year. Is it always the second weekend in October? I'll put it on the calendar now.
Ruth, thanks for visiting! I need to put sychronizing on my blogroll. I always visit from Amy's blog. Gonna do that today! And, you're welcome. It's easy to make nice comments about your blog and photography. You and Amy are my idols.
Great family shots! Of course, I love the Autumn leaves in the posts below...
Didn't know about the Amish puppy mills either, but it makes sense, now that I do.
What a beautiful family you have, Susan. I love the photos of everyone celebrating and enjoying a wonderful fall day. It looks like you all had such a nice time :)
