However, I did take a picture of the chickens getting the leftovers. They like nothing better than to finish off those ears of corn. It's their favorite treat and so much fun to watch.

The River and the Sea
"The river is within us, the sea is all about us . . ."
— T S Eliot (Four Quartets)
How does the river run within the sea?
Like the coyote, bounding deer-like
in the soy bean field last evening,
and behind him the honeyed sun
a young girl’s hair, cascading among
the trees. He distanced gradually
from the road we cycled, his body
now disappearing beneath
the shrubby, wavy green, now
reappearing in the bob and bounce
of a cork retreating from shore. Like
a dream. Like a secret stone that leaps
as the sun sets, an opal, a tiger’s eye,
to the horizon, until he and the sun are one.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

Oh yes, leftovers from corn on the cob are a favorite chickie treat! It's so entertaining to watch them pick out every last bit. I'm amazed at just how far down they go. Jim likes to use the picked-out cobs as handles for his metal files in the workshop. Not a bad way to recycle!
I would like to give them some whole ears, but can't stop myself and the family from eating all of them! Hey, you could always make some corncob pipes for you and Jim to puff on while you sit out by the pond! And even fill them with dry cornsilks! LOL
